Core Ferrous Metals: The Foundation Of Fiber Laser Cutting

Fiber laser cutting machines excel at processing ferrous metals, with carbon steel and stainless steel as their primary applications. Carbon steel, especially in thin to medium thicknesses, is cut with exceptional speed, clean edges, and minimal thermal distortion, making it ideal for kitchenware, architectural components, and chemical tanks. Stainless steel benefits from nitrogen-assisted cutting, producing bright, burr-free edges critical for medical devices and food processing equipment. Galvanized steel and pre-coated metals are also compatible; while coatings may vaporize, the base metal retains high cut quality with proper ventilation.

Non-Ferrous Metals: Precision For Reflective Alloys

Modern high-power fiber lasers (2kW and above) effectively cut reflective non-ferrous metals by overcoming their high reflectivity. Aluminum alloys, widely used in aerospace and automotive heat sinks, achieve smooth cuts with optimized parameters. Copper and brass, valued for electrical components and heat exchangers, require sufficient power to manage their extreme thermal conductivity. Titanium alloys and nickel-based superalloys, essential for aerospace engine parts and medical implants, are cut with narrow kerfs and minimal heat-affected zones, preserving material integrity for high-end applications.

Specialized Materials: Expanding Application Boundaries

Beyond metals, fiber lasers process select non-metals with precise parameter control. Engineering plastics like POM and PMMA are cut cleanly at low power, avoiding melting or harmful fumes with adequate ventilation. Thin plywood and MDF can be shaped with minimal charring, suiting model-making and decorative crafts. Textiles such as leather and cloth are cut without fraying, enabling intricate patterns for footwear and furniture manufacturing. These capabilities make fiber lasers versatile across metal fabrication and specialized non-metal processing.
