Fiber Laser Cutting Principle

A fiber laser cutting machine is an advanced material processing device. Its working principle involves generating a high-power-density laser beam through the laser source, which is then focused by the optical path system and directed onto the workpiece. This causes the workpiece to reach its melting or boiling point, while an auxiliary gas is used to blow away the molten material, thereby achieving the cutting process.

Main Components Of A Fiber Laser Cutting Machine

Laser Source:The heart of the machine. It generates the high-power, high-quality laser beam.

Beam Delivery System:A durable, flexible optical fiber cable that transmits the laser beam from the generator to the cutting head with minimal power loss.

Cutting Head:The "working end" of the machine. It houses the final focusing optics and auxiliary systems.

Drive System: High-precision servo motors and linear guides/drives that enable fast and accurate movement of the cutting head or the workpiece.

Chiller:A dedicated cooling system that circulates coolant to remove waste heat from the laser generator, beam delivery fiber, and the cutting head optics. Maintaining a stable temperature is critical for laser efficiency, beam quality, and component lifespan.

Advantages of Fiber Laser Cutting Machines

High Photoelectric Conversion Efficiency:Fiber lasers typically achieve 30-40% efficiency, consuming significantly less electrical power for the same output compared to CO₂ lasers .

Excellent Beam Quality:The laser beam is highly focused, creating an extremely small spot with very high energy density. This allows for faster piercing and cutting speeds, especially on thin to medium-thickness sheets.

Smooth Cut Edges:Capable of producing clean, vertical, and dross-free cuts with excellent surface finish, often eliminating the need for secondary finishing processes.

High Positioning and Repeatability Accuracy:Paired with precision motion systems, it enables intricate contour cutting and excellent part consistency.
